Witch 13 Review- Yikes~
A lot of people who review books will move past writing any sort of negative review but this is dishonest. There needs to be more honest reviews, less than overly glaringly positive reviews and that leads us here. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this E-Arc of Witch 13 by Patrick Delaney. This review isn't a personal attack but it is necessary to provide the negative along with the positive. Having only positive reviews does a disservice to authors, readers, and reviewers. It's bad practice. Having said that let's get to Witch 13. This won't take long.
I only got about 50 pages in before I had to stop reading it. Even though it was a DNF, it's important to say why. Let's just go over what didn't work
The writing...the writing didn't work. It was extremely amateur. This is what lead to me DNF this book. It was unreadable. The dialogue felt forced and every last thing a character did was explained. It was a case of not letting the writing do its job, it was forced.
Characters.. Felt no connection or emotional response to any of the characters... Also 7 year olds favorite show was friends... First of all, no one's favorite show should ever be Friends but that's neither here nor there. A 7 year old's favorite show wouldn't be friends, as having raised/raising multiple children, it's just nonsense to think that a 7 year old would like that show.
I've been told that the horror elements were genuinely creepy but besides the opening scene which was creepy, but overall meh, I didn't make it to see if there was a creep factor.
I do thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this early but this ain't it.
If you want decent writing, characters, plot then don't read this book.
